International:
MaryLou Iverson has served on many National and State boards related to Playgrounds, With the National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA), she was a founder of the Playground Safety Institute and for many years was on the original NPSI Board and an instructor. She continued as an instructor in the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) training and certification program for many years. Ms. Iverson was a founder, served on the Board of the National Playground Contractors Association International (NPCAI). She was a founder and instructor of the Playground Construction School. She continues to be active in the American Society of Testing and Materials International (ASTMI) playground, surfacing and amusements committees. She also consults on initiative projects with architects, designers and fabricators. Ms. Iverson consults with attorneys and serves as an expert on play area related cases.

Washington State:
Courtney Brown has over 17 years’ experience in the parks and recreation industry and is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector by the National Recreation and Park Association Certified Playground Safety Instructor Training and Certification Program since 2010. Courtney has been a member of the Washington Parks & Recreation Association since 2003.
Courtney has a deep passion for outdoor and community recreation. Over the past 20 years he has worked in all aspects of the parks and playground industry including, playground sales and design, recreation programming, project management and parks maintenance. He graduated from Central Washington University BS. Recreation Management. Courtney prides himself on his customer service and truly loves the work he does. Courtney serves the entire Puget Sound area and specializes in playground audits and inspections for community associations, HOA’s, and school districts.

Oregon State:
Jerry Burgess has been a park professional for nearly 40 years. In 1979 he was hired on by Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) as a Park Tech Specialist. His background in landscape maintenance, irrigation, construction and drafting skills became a Park Improvement Supervisor and Capital Project Manager in 1995 overseeing maintenance of over 90 playgrounds along with other park assets. In 2009 he became the full-time Capital Project Manager when the maintenance operations went through a re-organization. His work involved replacement of over 20 playgrounds, bridges, boardwalks, pathways, parking lots & sidewalks at THPRD until retiring in 2019.
Jerry became a Certified Playground Safety Inspectors (CPSI) in 1998 maintaining his three-year certification to date. Jerry has served as a Maintenance And Construction Section (MACS) board member for the Oregon Recreation & Park Association (ORPA) from 2000 to 2019.

Oregon State:
Nancy Agnesse became a certified playground safety inspector in July of 2000 and has maintained her certification ever since. She is a third generation Oregonian and graduated from the University of Portland in 1992. Her professional journey started in the insurance industry, holding positions in claims, underwriting, and loss control over a span of 8 years. She ultimately found her niche as a playground safety inspector and has serviced Oregon Public schools, Oregon head start programs, Tualatin Hills Park & Rec, Bend Park & Rec, Willamalane Park & Rec, Oregon and Washington Private schools, HOA’s, as well as various other entities over the course of her career. Nancy also has experience providing playground layout and design assistance, general playground safety training, and hazard identification/mitigation training. Additionally, she has been called upon to give expert opinions in playground injury claims.
In 2018, Nancy was selected by the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) to serve a three-year term on the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) examination writing committee. In 2021, she was offered and agreed to continue serving on this committee for another three-year term. Nancy enjoys being out in nature and creating or improving safe play spaces for kids!
